New NMVTIS Requirements for Indiana Towing and Salvage Companies

Indiana lawmakers have changed requirements associated with the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) with an effective date of July 1, 2019. Fortunately for Auto Data Direct customers, we’ve got you covered!

ADD is a Department of Justice approved provider of NMVTIS data as well as a consolidator of data. Its innovative and responsive system allows industry to meet new and existing statutory requirements in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner.

The first legislative change (HB 1183) requires Indiana towing companies responsible for a towed vehicle to search NMVTIS no later than three business days after a completed tow. Within ADD’s DMV123 vehicle record search, a tow company can click on National Title Pointer, enter a VIN, and instantly receive a vehicle title report as required by this new law. The report can be printed or retained within your ADD archive for verification purposes.

The second new law (HB 1482) impacts Indiana salvage recyclers. Effective July 1st, an automotive salvage recycler must report the purchase of a motor vehicle to NMVTIS no later than 72 hours after the purchase; and it must provide to the seller a valid NMVTIS reporting ID number. Because ADD reports data to NMVTIS each night, any business reporting through its system can meet the requirement if they push data into their account in a timely manner.

ADD’s NMVTIS upload tools are designed to help customers fulfill the reporting requirement quickly and easily. Two account types are available to suit any size business or upload volume. Full Service accounts include individual vehicle entry, batch vehicle entry using a spreadsheet and business-to-business processing which can be arranged with the customer’s IT staff, all for a low per-report fee. Basic Service accounts include no-cost individual entry and emailed confirmation receipts.
